According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, car accidents happen every second of every day, which sums up to around 5.25 million driving accidents a year. Of those who are involved in a car accident, roughly 2.9 million individuals suffer slight or severe injuries from negligence behind the wheel. Sometimes car accidents are avoidable; however most car accidents are uncontrollable. For instance, getting rear ended by someone who isn’t paying attention, because of texting and driving is out of your control. Cases where the accident was caused by another person talking on the phone or texting makes up 28% of traffic accidents. The National Safety Council has reported that the vast majority of those car accidents, 1.4 million are caused by drivers talking on the phone, and 200,000 are caused by texting. These types of accidents could be avoided if we would just put our phones away while we are on the road. It is not worth getting into a car crash, or even killed.
